Austin, TX
Every few months my mom comes over to Texas from Florida to visit Stephen and me, and this time we thought it would be fun to take a little trip down to Austin. Austin is such a fun, free, exciting, and interesting city. You should never feel out of place in Austin. One cool thing about Austin are their vintage shops. They have tons! Pretty much wherever you look you'll see a little vintage shop, or a truck selling vintage garments out of it.

So we love the show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and we knew that Austin had a few DDD locations. We were able to hit up 2 out of the 4, which isn't bad for a weekend trip. One of them was the Green Mesquite. One thing I love about the show is that it educates you about good local restaurants that you might not have ever tried because of the outside appearance. The Green Mesquite is a simple BBQ with some killer food. The atmosphere was nice and they had a great size patio. I loved the vibe at this place. The servers wore shirts that said
"God knows when you don't tip"
and
"Smokin' the good stuff..."
Anyways, if you're ever in Austin you should try it!

Yummy chicken wing! |
Me and my Mom |
The wings were sooo yummy! |
Seriously, this cupcake truck had at least 10 people in line at all times... |
But the wait was so worth it! They were amazing! My favorite was the Michael Jackson and the Red Velvet |
A lot of people don't really know about this park but it's so cool. It's free and it's pretty close to downtown. But anyways, it's a peacock park called Mayfield Nature Preserve. They just have random peacocks roaming the property and there are gardens spread out on the property.
Another cool place to go on a Saturday night is The Elephant Room. It's a jazz bar that is in the basement of an old building on 4th and congress. It's a pretty cool, relaxed place.
Maybe for our next trip we'll get my mom a tattoo ;)
