Garden Update

Ahhh!!! The garden is out of control! We had to pick all of our radishes because they were just getting out of hand. We also were able to pick five yellow squash and we have several more almost ready to pick, along with a zucchini. It's pretty exciting to have started these plants from seeds and now we are getting produce.

Garden Update

Just when I began to wonder why in the world I decided to plant an enormous garden, while being 9 months pregnant, I started getting produce! We have so many radishes and are beginning to get yellow squash and zucchini. The little squash bugs are starting to show their face, so I'm going to spray soapy water all on the plants, and hopefully that takes care of the problem before it's too late. I am starting to get a little overwhelmed with the amount of weeding, fertilizing, and harvesting that needs to be done, but it will all be worth it. This week I plan on picking all my radishes, and some zucchini and squash if we're lucky, and take care of my squash bug problem. If I don't go into early labor while trying to keep my garden alive, we'll be in good shape!

Garden Update

Garden Update

Well, my seedlings aren't quite ready to be planted just yet and it's driving me crazy. I feel like they are growing so slow and weak. I'm hoping they get going so we can plant them in the next couple weeks. We have been busy being farmers though. Stephen has been having a hay day being able to play with his Grandpa's tractor. Stephen built a couple trellises for our grapevines and I can't wait to start getting some grapes. We've been able to plant some herbs, a fig tree, and our grapevines so far. Hopefully we will have good weather this next week so we can plant some of our seeds we have.

I'm starting to get some strawberries from my plant!

Garden update

Wow, our apartment looks like a mini green house. I am having so much fun with these little seedlings. They have gotten so big since my last update. I have to watch the tomatoes pretty carefully because they drink water like a horse. I also purchased a strawberry plant today. It already has some mini strawberries growing. Makes me feel a little closer to my family in Florida by having a strawberry plant in our apartment. In Florida we grow lots of oranges and strawberries. Every year we have a big strawberry festival dedicated to strawberries. We also have lots and lots of strawberry stands that sell strawberry shortcake. My family and I go to this little stand in Brandon and it seriously is the best strawberry shortcake you will ever have. Anyways, enough blabbing...

Future Garden Plans:
Our goal for this next week is to get started on our seedlings that need to be planting directly into the ground and also Stephen wants to grow some grapevines so we are going to build some posts for them.

Garden update

3/4/12

I have sprouts! My broccoli and my tomatoes have already started to sprout. I have one little tomatillo that has sprouted but hopefully more will sprout throughout the week. This weekend Stephen plowed up some land for my garden. Hopefully I will be able to get my little seedlings into the ground at the end of this month... We'll see though.

Gardening

Unfortunately, it's been a few years since I've been able to grow my own garden. Living in an apartment really makes it hard to grow much of anything. It's possible to grow your herb garden or tomato plant here or there but it isn't the same as having your own garden that you baby up until you finally get your first fruits. My husband knew I really wanted to garden this season and he offered to plow up a small little plot of land over on his Grandparents property. I was so tickled that I went out and bought a ton of seeds. I might be in over my head but I don't care. My plan is to share with you guys my challenges and my successes with my garden and if you have any tips or ideas you want to throw my way, I would love to hear them. Just e-mail me or post a comment.

Thanks!
